How to make a Bootable pen drive :- When your computer does not starts normally due to some problem in operation system, You need to boot or start it from some external source like a CD or pen drive. Why you need a bootable pen drive

Bootable pen drive is very useful when your operating systems corrupts and doesn’t boot or in other words does not starts. Hardware geeks keep a bootable CD ready to face this situation. But you can make a bootable pen drive. This would be convenient to carry a pen drive than a CD, you can put it in your pocket and can repair your friends corrupts operation system easily.

Make a bootable Pen Drive

In order to have a bootable pen drive, You will need a blank pen drive and some bunch of Freeware.

Step-1

USB Disk Storage Format

This is a small freeware utility to format the USB drive with FAT file system. Download and install this freeware and format your pen drive choosing FAT file system. Download it from here

Step-2

Grub4Dos a boot manager

This is a boot manager or loader of GRUB4DOS it can be used in many ways. Download this from here.

Download and extract the zip file of this tool, then run the grubinst_gui.exe file.

In the option box select the pen drive in disk section, select the disk which has same size of your pen drive.
Click Refresh button.
Choose “whole disk (MBR) in Part list
Click Install Button

Step-3

Copy Bootable CD in pen drive

Now you pen drive is ready to put bootable CD content in it. There are several bootable CD and rescue CD in the market. We are taking “Hiren’s Bootable CD” here, which is quite famous among hardware geeks.

Download the Hiren’s Bootable CD Image from here

Unzip it and extract all the content of it.

Copy all the files and folders form CD to pen drive

Copy “grldr and “menu.lst” from HBCD folder to the root folder of USB drive. At the end all will look like this.
