20 Useful Google Search Tricks.

Google search tricks :- Hello Friends, whenever we need any information what we do, most of us just opens Google home page and type the word, hits the search button. Sometimes it works well but sometimes we search and research with different words but we don’t find our desired information or file.

Well there are several useful tricks and tools we can use while searching on Google. These search methods are provided by the Google for quick and easy search experience.

1. Exact phrase search :-  use “ ……” these double inverted commas to search the page which have these exact words or lines in it. This is very useful for searching any books, article, tender notice, code or any technical document.
2. AND and OR Operators :- you can put search operators “AND” & “OR” between your search words, for example you can use these operators as,  Nokia AND Samsung , Nokia OR Samsung. But write the operators in caps only.
3. Exclude word :-  by use of “-“ operator you can remove or exclude any search term such as, mobile phones – Nokia, would show result without Nokia pages.
4. Synonyms search: – use ~ this mark to perform search of all synonym words of your search word, for example ~boat will give you results from all the synonym words of boat. (not working currently)
5. Define:- You can read basic definition of any word by putting define: before any word, but this feature is not working currently in Google, so use Wikipedia for definitions of any word.
6. Site: – This is a very powerful and helpful solution for search bugs. We can search only one desired website by this operator. Put this operator and website name after the search word to search a particular website only – for example “science site:msn.com”
7. Link:website name :-  if you have a website or a blog you can check how many other websites links your site ie. how may backlinks you have, by using Google only. Just type “link:website name” and see the results of WebPages which backlinks your websites.
8. Range :- You can set range in your search times like “tablet $200…$300”
9. Safe search:- If you are going to search some topic that can give adult pages in results, and you don’t want to see them use safe search option like safesearch:massage
10. Cache pages -: See a old version or cached version of any webpage or website by putting “cache:” before the site name.
11. File Type search: – This is probably most useful search methods for everyone; we can find word document, excel sheets, pdf, mp3 and any type of files. You can directly download any files after searching by this method. Say if someone want a chart template in excel, he can find it by searching like this – “chart template filetype:xls.” Some popular file type extensions are – doc, docx for word 2003 and word 2007+, xls, xlsx for Excell 2003 and excel 2007+, pdf, txt for notepad files, ppt for PowerPoint presentations, exe for software & games, jpg,jpeg,gif for pictures etc.
12. allintitle: every webpage has a title, it is the essential part of it. If you want some exact search then search the keyword in the titles of webpages. Use allintitle:free games will give you only those pages which has the title free games in search results.
13. inurl: If you want to search urls of websites then use this search operator with your desired keyword.
14. site:.edu – search only .edu or .gov webs with this option, this is very handy in searching  some non commercial stuff regarding your project.
15. Country specific search :- This is also very useful operator because it gives results from only one country, if you want to search pages from United Kingdom write (Search keywords site:uk )
16. Google Book Search :- This is a great tool for book lovers. Go to google.com and search advance book search. (This feature is not working in local Googles like google.nz etc, so you have to go to main Google site link http://www.google.com/advanced_book_search).

A detailed search box would appear like shown in figure; where user can search books by title, author, publisher, subject, publication date range, ISBN no. You can search magazines too by this tool. One important thing, check the radio button of “full view” option to see the books which are available for reading online.

17. Weather :- if your want to check your local weather; type “weather:cityname’ and click the search button.
18. Search by Image: – If you have a photo of person or unknown place, which is bugging you, where this place is? you can search the similar images on Google easily and you can know who is it, or what the place is. For search by image, go to Google Image search, reduce the size or your browsers window a little bit, now drag the image which you have to the search area and drop it there. Google would upload your image and perform search for similar images found on the web.

19. Search by content license:- If you want some free photos or mp3 for use on your blog and website, click the options button and chose the advance search from menu. On the advance search box you can select the license type of content.

20. Advance search tools: – By the help of advance search tools, you can search by the time ie. One week or one month older pages and by selection location you can search your nearby city or state results.
