British Tabloids

British Tabloids follows their own rules of journalism; they give importance to News stories also with the celebrity gossips as their main content. They often filled up with the mixture of News and sensational stories. They keep looking for new sources of hot gossip stories and pays high money for it. They did not care much about the anonymity of source of gossip stories.
That’s why, sometime critics uses word “Tabloid” to insult a newspaper which sensationalizes the news stories.

In recent times, Three major British broadsheet daily newspapers have switched format and joined the club of Tabloids, these are The Independent, The Times & The Scotsman.
They use the term “compact format” to avoid the tabloid sticker.
Another major British Newspaper “The Express” had switched format from broadsheet to tabloid in the year 1977.
A new term “Red-Top” is being coined for British Tabloids because of their Red colored mastheads in the UK media.
